Tip – How to Use a AsyncPostBackTrigger from a dropdownlist change

February 2, 2012

If you have a Placeholder that contains something like a DataGrid Table which you don’t want a page refresh to change records from a drop down list. All you need to do is add an AsyncPostBackTrigger inside an UpdatePanel to update the records in the PlaceHolder using AJAX. The page refresh is avoided, when you change items in the drop down list ddlItems.

<asp:UpdatePanel ID=”upUsers” runat=”server” UpdateMode=”Always”>
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:PlaceHolder ID=”PlaceHolder1″ runat=”server”></asp:PlaceHolder>
</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID=”ddlItems” EventName=”SelectedIndexChanged” />
</Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
