How to have Reports Definitions (RDLC) work on ASP.NET!

July 4, 2012

The problem seems endless with reports in ASP.NET, and after solving the reports issue, when I click to generate a PDF or Excel report on the published ASP.NET website. The error is generated: –

The definition of the report ‘Main Report’ is invalid.

I thought it was the requirement of deploying the assemblies, of embedding the following into the bin folder: –

Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common.dll
Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel.dll
Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll

But then I still get the same error!

The easy solution to solve this is to copy across from the local machine to the published ASP.NET folder on the server, the actual .RDLC files which on the published site is 1Kb, but its bound to be more on the local machine, and it simply works!
